The Artist behind
the Viti Project:
I’m a french artist currently living in Reykjavík. I have always been drawing and I’m now focusing my practice on watercolor landscapes, seeking inspiration from the majestic scenes Icelandic nature can display. I have studied applied arts and design and obtained an M.A. degree in Stage design in 2017 in France. I am a member of the Icelandic Watercolorists Association (Vatnslitafélagið) and of the Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (Samband Íslenskra Myndlistarmanna).
The journey of the Viti Project, a passionate endeavor ignited in 2018, started as the crazy idea of capturing every Icelandic lighthouses amidst their breathtaking environments through the medium of watercolor. This artistic journey has spirited me across the rugged coastline of Iceland, where human footprints seldom tread. It is within the solitude of these isolated realms that I discover a profound connection to the echoes of wild places and the poignant narratives of maritime tragedies.
Hey I’m Mathilde!
It's in these moments, amidst the roaring ocean, waterfalls and sweeping glaciers, that I feel at home in the world. With every brushstroke, I strive to immortalize the fleeting magic of these remote places, to evoke the same sense of wonder and awe that fills my heart while I am there.
“…she took her hand and raised her brush. For a moment it stayed trembling in a painful but exciting ecstasy in the air. Where to begin?-that was the question at what point to make the first mark? One line placed on the canvas committed her to innumerable risks, to frequent and irrevocable decisions. All that in idea seemed simple became in practice immediately complex; as the waves shape themselves symmetrically from the cliff top, but to the swimmer among them are divided by steep gulfs, and foaming crests. Still the risk must run; the mark made.”
